When considering purchasing photo birth announcements to showcase your new baby, you need to know that they are NOT all created equal. While sometimes it’s the photos themselves that are the problem, too often it is the announcements themselves. They are printed on substandard paper, lack image fine-tuning or just don’t look like the sample announcement.
We asked a group of mothers to describe their experiences with photo birth announcements. Here’s what they said:
Be Careful About Ordering Those Hospital Birth Announcements
1. I purchased photo birth announcements when my daughter was born. Unfortunately, I bought them from the hospital. Not only were the pictures horrible, but the announcements were extremely over priced.
2. After my baby was born, I purchased photo birth announcements through the hospital. A very nice lady came into my room and gave me a package. I browsed through the package showing birth announcements, which were very expensive. Nonetheless, I ordered the biggest packaged deal and gave her my check. In about a week I received the birth announcements. To tell you the truth, for the amount of money I paid, the quality was terrible! It looked like they were printed off a low quality home printer.
3. I would recommend that if you insist on using the hospital picture, that you send a stuffed toy and cute outfit for them to photograph your baby in at the hospital, just to spiff it up a bit.
Advantages of Ordering Birth Announcements
If you want photo baby announcements consider getting them from a company that specializes in them. There are a number of such companies available online that offer some unique and beautifully designed birth announcements.
Often you can actually order the announcements in advance, which is a great way to take advantage of a sale. Then all you have to do after the baby is born is have a photo taken and email it in along with the birth statistics.
1. I ordered photo birth announcements when my daughter was born. I absolutely loved them. Most of my family is out of state and not very computer savvy, so they all enjoyed getting to see the new baby and having the information about her on the card.
2. I searched online and found so many different types of birth announcements that it was hard to choose. Some looked like lottery tickets, drivers’ licenses and even seed packets, which is what I finally decided on. They were so cute!
3. When purchasing a photo birth announcements, keep a few things in mind. Some people will treasure the announcement and keep it for years while others will throw away in a few weeks. Make sure to get something that is nice but not too expensive.
Finally, here’s a follow-up from the first woman who was disappointed in the photo birth announcements she ordered from the hospital.
“I am pregnant again and about to give birth any day. Remembering my previous disappointment, I have been doing some online research. I have identified several birth announcement companies with some great designs, and even obtained some sample announcements. This has relaxed and reassured me, allowing me to focus on more important matters.
I now know when I go into the hospital for this baby I will NOT be getting the hospital birth announcement package. Instead, I will be purchasing my announcements from an outside source that I have done extensive research on.”
